TEENS IN ACTION

Learn and Serve | Service-Learning | Partnerships

Teens In Action is Camp Fire USA's service learning program for teens in grades 6-12.  It is based on the concept that young people are the key to the future and are making a difference in communities nationwide.  Teens In Action empowers teens to speak out and stand up in their community.  A Teens In Action member will help others and the community through cool projects that they create, design and implement based on their interests and community needs.  Teens In Action's approach to service learning provides teens a unique opportunity to learn about community issues and solve problems in a supportive environment.

Learn and Serve America

Learn and Serve America is a program of the Corporation of National and Community Service, an independent federal agency.  Learn and Serve America supports institutions and community-based organizations across the country through grants, training and technical assistance and recognition programs. Camp Fire USA and Learn and Serve America have teamed up to engage teens in intensive service-learning experiences.

Service-Learning

Service-learning is a teaching method that engages young people in solving problems within their schools and communities as part of an intentional learning activity.  Service-learning also helps young people develop skills ranging from acts of kindness and caring to community stewardship to civic action.  The service-learning philosophy is learning by doing through meaningful experiences.

Service Learning  works!  A growing body of research recognizes the benefits of service-learning as an effective strategy to:

  • Improve academic achievement.
  • Increase student engagement.
  • Improve social behavior.
  • Build civic skills.
  • Stengthen community partnerships.
